Lucy's Tribute

Lucy Belle

Lucy Belle Dewey

Born April, 1979

Died October 25, 1997

Lucy Belle (above) was our second. Like Chuck, she was born in April 1979 and we brought her home in May. Lucy enjoyed the great outdoors and loved taking walks on a leash. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in early 1994 and Feline CRF in 1996. Through it all, however, she survived. Lucy was a very strong-willed girl.

Lucy loved watching out the window. She loved sleeping on just about anything that was navy blue. In her early years she enjoyed snoozing on top of the refrigerator. Later on in life she loved her stuffed chair in the living room and loved sleeping in the sun my office. Her final months were spent in her "apartment" in the kitchen, complete with heat, light and her own TV and radio!

It was her sudden development of respiratory problems that was the final blow, however. Our Lucy Belle was put to rest at 1:33pm Saturday afternoon (October 25, 1997) after losing her battles. Lucy would have been 19 years old in April.

Now, eighteen years and five months later she’s left this earth for her life ever after. She was buried at sunrise this Sunday morning (10/26/97) alongside her sister, Sunshine in the backyard.

Words just cannot explain the pain right now. It’s been just 10 months since we lost Sunshine to cancer -- now this. Time should heal all pains, but this void in our lives may never be filled again... Lucy was my first girl. She is just so, so special to me -- truly, "Daddy's little girl".

"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope; Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now."

- The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans, chapter 8, verses 18-22

I love you Lucy my Goosey...
