6/1/98: Charlie Brown -- our first and our oldest -- suffered a severe stroke last Friday evening. Medication helped him through the night, but his pain is gone, now. Chuck was put to sleep at 2:21pm, Saturday (May 30, 1998). Charlie was on his favorite pillow surrounded by fresh flowers and grass (he loved the outdoors), his favorite toys, pictures of his brother and sisters now departed and with Paul and Debbie at his side.
We’ve lost three other cats during the past 18 months, but this is by far the toughest blow. Charlie, diagnosed with Chronic Renal (kidney) Failure at the age of 15 in October of 1993, was never expected to make it this long. The vet at the time gave him 6 months to live. With a strict diet, plenty of TLC and good care from other vets he lived to see his 19th birthday! He out-lived three others that fell ill to various problems long after him. Charlie was a fighter.
Chuck was also a healer. He was always there when I was down or sick. He always made you laugh. He loved to play with you, take walks outdoors and just chat away each night when I came home from work. He slept with me (and usually on top of me!) every night I’ve been home for the past 4+ years -- ever since he came home from the vets diagnosed with CRF. We were very close, indeed. For almost half of my life Charlie’s been at my side. Now, he will only be in my heart.
We will miss dearly. His eight remaining brothers and sisters will miss him dearly. The house will never quite be the same.
It’s ironic, too. Debbie’s mother passed away 15 years ago to the day (May 30, 1983). This also was a turning point weekend in my life, as I ended one career just Friday and began my new job at Pet Pride on Monday. ''To everything there is a reason...'' they say. Yes, there must be here.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
Charlie was buried at sunrise on the 31st, next to Simon (died 12/8/97), Lucy Belle (10/25/97) and Sunshine (12/4/96). They now are our Four Little Angels in Heaven above.
Charlie Brown, you're such a clown... we miss you, Chuck...
We love you...
Charlie Brown Dewey 1979-1998
Our Angels are now at Rush Inter Pet Cemetery
